Manipulation of Soil Surface and NPKMg Fertilization on Shrub Pepper Plant
This experiment was conducted at Sukamulia Experimental Station, Sukabumi, from February to July 1998. The objective of this experiment was to find the kind of manipulation of soil surface and NPKMg fertilization for the best growth of shrub pepper plant. The experiment was arranged in Split Plot Design with three replications. Manipulation of soil surface as main plots consisted of clean weeding (S1), circle weeding (S2), crop residue mulching (S3), black plastic mulching (S4), and black plastic plus crop residue mulching (S5). NPKMg fertilization as sub-plots consisted of 300 g/plant/year twice application (P1), 300 g/plant/year three times application (P2), 180 g/plant/year twice application (P3), and 180 g/plant/year three times application (P4). The result showed that soil surface manipulation influenced the vegetative and generative growth of shrub pepper. Crop residue mulching (S3) and black plastic plus crop residue mulching (S5) were the best treatments for pepper. NPKMg fertilization treatment did not show any significant effect on the shrub pepper growth. Interaction between the two treatments significantly influenced the growth of shrub pepper. Combination S3P2, S5P4, S5P1, and S1P2 were the best treatment to manipulate soil surface and NPKMg fertilization.
